In Planning Player Reward Pack cards in nonfoil too.

Can we get the cards/versions of cards that are new to modo through the Player Rewards Packs be released in nonfoil in addition to foils? As recently mentioned in the Discord by a number of people there isn't really a reason to hard lock anything in a digital system to being exclusively foil or nonfoil, and not everyone likes foils.

In paper, the cards are only available nonfoil. In mtgo they are only foil. This seems to be a mistake

This is sadly not a bug. It is a result of player reward pack cards, unfortunately, only being released into the client in foil.

This thread here is a request to change that, and hopefully if they do change it they can slowly work backwards and release previous month's new cards in nonfoil when we have months that don't require new cards to be added.

Yeah, at this point there are more players on Mtgo who prefer non-foil versions of cards to foil ones, and so it’s bizarre that these would only be released in foil.

Just wanted to chime in with Mystery Booster 2 cards on the horizon that it would be super nice if they weren't foil locked when we get them.

It would be pretty cool to have the cards in non-foil if possible. For me I have trouble making out details on pictures and reading foils even with the effects turned off (to be fair I also have trouble in paper reading foils as well so its not limited to modo).

Since this thread has been bumped, it looks like this is an appropriate place to ask.

Why does everybody have such an aversion to foils online? In paper, I understand the concerns because of things like curling cards and stuff. But that doesn't exist online.

Truth be told, when it comes to the traditional foils at least, I can barely tell the difference between foil and non-foil versions of 90% of cards. That slight shimmering effect doesn't really do much for me one way or the other. But I see in some cases, there's little to no price discrepancy among foil/non-foil versions of some cards, and there are some that vary *wildly*. In some cases I see the foil versions at bargain-basement prices compared to their non-foil counterparts, and in others it's vice-versa. And there seems to be little rhyme or reason to it, and it has always confused the hell out of me.

With that being said, I know this is far beyond the scope of this conversation, but I'd love to see WotC in general shift focus away from gimmicky borders and foils and animated effects and focus on just delivering more high-resolution art. In 2025, our cards should not look like they were screenshots of a cartoon drawn in 1982.
