If you return The Princess Takes Flight with the ability on Meticulous Excavation back to hand the opponent gets the exiled creature back into their hand. Seems to be a bug.
Neither returning the Saga with a bounce spell like Geistwave nor using the Excavation in response to the Saga's 1st chapter trigger gives the opponent the creature back. This only seems to happen, when you use the Excavation on the Saga while it is in play and either 1st or 2nd chapter markers are on the enchantment.
Expected result would be, that the creature exiled with the Saga stays in exile when it is returned to hand with the Excavation.
