Not A Bug Trazyn the Infinite bug

When using Trazyn with Phyrexian Devourer and Triskelion in graveyard, if you remove a +1/+1 counter from Trazyn to deal 1 damage but misclick on Trazyn and ping him for one he dies instantly. Verified no artifacts with a sacrifice ability were in graveyard.

this has been marked as "Not a bug". Can someone explain what interaction or rules nonsense would cause a single point of damage from an ability to kill a creature with 20 +1/+1 counters on it?
