Not A Bug sanctifier en vec exiles when I don't think it should

Wording on sanctifier en vec is:
"If a black or red permanent, spell, or card not on the battlefield would be put into a graveyard, exile it instead."
Twice in a game a permanent (Bloodghast) that was on the battlefield was "sacrificed" and was exiled, not put in the graveyard. I'm not sure if I'm missing something in the rules, but this seems like a bug to me

Well, the rule cares about if that item is going into a graveyard, but not how the item goes into the graveyard.

Sacrifice still makes Bloodghost put into a graveyard, so the bloodghost will be exiled.
