Could Not Reproduce Rending Volley Targeting Light-Paws with Kaya's Ghostform

Rending Volley was cast targeting a Light-Paws with Kaya's Ghostform attached, but the creature still died anyways. Shouldn't Kaya's Ghostform resolve and return Light-paws to play instead of it dying? This was in a Pioneer League. I have screenshots of the aftermath if you would like, but not as it happened.
