Phantasmal Image, and potentially other clone type cards, are resulting in different amounts of life lost from being returned to the battlefield via Life//Death or Reanimate.

When using the Death side of the split card Life//Death to return my Phantasmal Image from my graveyard to the battlefield and copy a Goldspan Dragon, instead of losing 2 life (the mana cost of the Phantasmal Image, the card targeted by Death) I lost 5 life (the mana cost of Goldspan Dragon, the permanent it became after it entered the battlefield) which coincidentally resulted in my loss of the game.

I have already been reimbursed for this, but support recommended I post the bug and accompanying screenshots from my game.

As well, the ruling I could find on functionally identical card Reanimate (only differing by graveyards to select a target from)
"The amount of life you lose is detemined by the mana value of the card in your graveyard, not the creature once it's on the battlefield"

When they make these "polish passes" on the Vintage Cube, I wonder if they consider removing the cards that are known to be broken. Seems there are always a few in every new iteration.

They’re never going to remove cards like Reanimate, Phyrexian Metamorph, Council’s Judgment, etc. from the vintage cube, because those cards are amazing. They are true staples. Which is why fixes for cards like that need to be prioritized. For lower end cards I totally agree with you though, they should be cut from cubes until they are fixed and fully functional.
