Not A Bug Pippen, Guard of the Citadel - Didn't trigger ward

My pippin didn't trigger ward. I had a response to the ward trigger, so I waited for it to go on the stack, but instead my creature just died instead.

The card targeting pippin was Inscription of Ruin.

In testing Ward triggered as expected on Pippin, Guard of the Citadel. Depending on what format this happened in could there have possibly been a Nowhere to Run in play turning off ward?
