I played a match last night in which I attacked and damaged my opponent with Screaming Nemesis on my Turn 3, meaning that the opponent should not have been able to gain life.

However, after that took place, the opponent subsequently exiled Screaming Nemesis with Winds of Abandon, then attacked with Ocelot Pride - and after the attack, MTGO credited the opponent with lifegain - which should not have been able to occur - and then created for the opponent a cat token due to that improper lifegain.

This occurred in Match #275254634, in Game #904132820.

9/20/2024Once Screaming Nemesis's last ability causes it to deal damage to a player, that player won't be able to gain life for the rest of the game.

This indicates that for the "can't gain life" clause to go into effect, the damage to your opponent has to be ricocheted off of Nemesis, not dealt BY him directly. If he's killed before that happens, the clause never goes into effect.

9/20/2024Spells and abilities that cause a player affected by Screaming Nemesis's last ability to gain life still resolve. That player won't gain life, but any other effects of that spell or ability will happen.

And this Ruling seems to indicate he would get the Cat token either way.

This is correct, Screaming Nemesis only shuts off life gain if damage is dealt to a player through its triggered ability.

This is not correct, this ruling is calling out abilities like on Cloudblazer, where they won't gain the 2 life from the etb trigger, but they will still draw the 2 cards because the ability will try to resolve as much as possible. Abilities that need to see lifegain to trigger at all will never see any lifegain for them to trigger.
