Guardian of the Forgotten does seem to not behave as expected when either it or another creature that has been modified by a creature cast with bestow dies.
Based on my reading of the rules the Guardian of the Forgotten or other creature in question here should still be considered modified at the time it dies. Expected result should be modified creature dies, Guardian of the Forgotten sees a modified creature die and triggers, then the bestow creature sees that it is no longer attached and becomes a creature, and then after state based actions are finished being checked the Guardian of the Forgotten trigger goes onto the stack.
- 702.103f If a bestowed Aura becomes unattached, it ceases to be bestowed. If a bestowed Aura is attached to an illegal object or player, it becomes unattached and ceases to be bestowed. This is an exception to rule 704.5m.
- 704.5m If an Aura is attached to an illegal object or player, or is not attached to an object or player, that Aura is put into its owner’s graveyard.
- 700.9. Some cards refer to modified creatures. A creature is modified if it has one or more counters on it (see rule 122), if it is equipped (see rule 301.5), or if it is enchanted by an Aura that is controlled by that creature’s controller. (see rule 303.4). If an ability of a permanent checks to see whether that permanent is modified, the answer is always no if that permanent isn’t currently a creature.
