Expected:

- Because my creatures lose all abilities a creature with Ascend can't grant me the City's Blessing when I am enchanted with Overwhelming Splendor.

Actual:

- Although my Ascend creature is a 1/1 and its text box is blank, I am still granted the City's Blessing emblem when I play it.

This is an old one (from the bug blog days), but given the presence of Ascend on Ocelot Pride in MH3 maybe worth taking a look at?

I love to nitpick small errors in the client, but I'm having a hard time seeing how this does anything of consequence. The City's Blessing is only a reminder for us as players and doesn't do anything by itself as called out by 702.131c. Any creature with an ability that does care about the City's Blessing with Overwhelming Splendor on that player will be removed, and any creature that cares about the City's Blessing in play if Overwhelming Splendor would be removed would instantly grant the marker anyway.

  • 702.131. Ascend
    • 702.131a Ascend on an instant or sorcery spell represents a spell ability. It means “If you control ten or more permanents and you don’t have the city’s blessing, you get the city’s blessing for the rest of the game.”
    • 702.131b Ascend on a permanent represents a static ability. It means “Any time you control ten or more permanents and you don’t have the city’s blessing, you get the city’s blessing for the rest of the game.”
    • 702.131c The city’s blessing is a designation that has no rules meaning other than to act as a marker that other rules and effects can identify. Any number of players may have the city’s blessing at the same time.
    • 702.131d After a player gets the city’s blessing, continuous effects are reapplied before the game checks to see if the game state or preceding events have matched any trigger conditions.

It definitely might be too edge-casey to be worth fixing.

I don't think it's the case that it can't ever cause an issue even if it's rare. There are quite a few noncreatures that care about the City's Blessing – Andúril, Narsil Reforged • Arch of Orazca • Expel from Orazca • and seven others, so far. And of course the number of permanents a player controls to go down as well as up. It was deemed worth logging on the official Bug Blog when that was a thing. But I could certainly see it being a wontfix.

I chose to log it because it's the bug we (the Penny Dreadful community) know about that isn't on these forums that affects the most-played card with such a bug. People play Overwhelming Splendor both with and as a foil to Hypergenesis, in Curses decks, and also in Enduring Ideal depending on current legality. I'm gradually confirming and logging all of these bugs here. 230 to go! ;)
