Confounding conundrum triggers when an opponent's land is destroyed with Field of Ruin or a similar effect, even if they have not had a land enter play under their control in the turn yet
In a recent match I played, an opponent used Field of Ruin on one of my lands during my draw step. If I chose to search for a land with its ability, opponent's confounding conundrum triggered despite no other land having entered the battlefield under my control that turn. This happened with other "destroy target non-basic land. Each player may search..." effects too.
