Backlog Cataclysm vs Sacred Ground, lands are not returned to play

In the Premodern challenge this afternoon, I cast a Cataclysm when my opponent had a Sacred Ground and several other enchantments in play. Opponent selected their permanents for Cataclysm and did NOT select Sacred Ground as their enchantment. The Cataclysm then resolved, but Sacred Ground did not trigger to return opponent's lands to play. We both thought it worked in their favor and their lands should have returned to play.

Is this the intended behavior, or is this a bug?
