I think it would be interesting to have as special events alternative B&R queues for older formats where players can try out different cards that may have been banned in the past or formats with different bans in place to see what a format would look like.
I would say this is not something to have all the time, but to have on an occasional special event basis would make for some interesting new event types.
Examples would be a less restrictive Legacy banlist where things that in paper are prohibitive due to Reserved List (cards like Survival of the Fittest for example) are unbanned and people can play like Leagues with that banlist for the time period set by the event.
